Summary
Thorngarth collided with Stolt Aspiration while recovering its bow-tug position near Birkenhead Docks. The tug sustained significant structural damage and its engineer broke an arm. The investigation attributes the accident to insufficient familiarity and manoeuvre training, and recommends discussion of tug allocation and matching crew expertise to tug type and task.
