Summary
BSEE investigates a battery explosion on the Amberjack platform. Replacing two batteries with one exposed the replacement to a hazardous overcharge, releasing hydrogen into an unventilated communications enclosure. Findings address unsuitable electrical component ratings, inadequate hazard analysis and limited personnel awareness. No injuries or pollution occurred.
