Summary
A well drilled from a producing platform encountered anomalous permeable sands and severe lost circulation. During tripping for surface casing, the well began flowing, mostly water, and was diverted downwind. Flow ceased after eight hours. MMS recommends reviewing shallow hazards even at previously drilled platforms, including formation anomalies beyond shallow gas markers.
