Summary
A roustabout suffered head and ankle injuries when a lifting sling parted during drill-pipe handling. One joint became wedged between the catwalk and pipe-rack stanchion; movement of the remaining joints increased sling tension. The released pipe struck the worker as he positioned himself to insert a pipe stop.
