Summary
Lightning disabled a drilling rig’s electronic pit volume totaliser, knocked one mud pump offline and caused minor SCR damage. A kick followed several minutes later and was eventually controlled by the crew. The contractor subsequently evaluated grounding methods in the hope of preventing recurrence.
