Summary
A shipboard generator failure started a bilge fire. Unfamiliarity with a semi-portable foam extinguisher delayed firefighting, allowing fire and smoke to spread. Following evacuation, engine-room isolation and fixed CO2 suppression extinguished the fire. The flash stresses equipment-specific familiarisation and frequent emergency training and drills.
