Summary
Investigation synopsis of Aurelia’s flooding and sinking west of St Kilda. The flooding source remained uncertain, with cooling-system pipework or an expansion coupling considered most likely. It examines bilge alarm failure, inaccessible inlet valves, limited pumping and compromised watertight integrity. All five crew abandoned the vessel without injury and were rescued.
