Summary
Investigation of a gas-compressor fire on the South Timbalier 28 PRD offshore platform. Inspectors identified cooler-tube rupture and gas release as the most likely cause, with static charge the probable ignition source. Pressure and tube age may have contributed through fatigue. A fusible plug triggered process shutdown; operators immediately extinguished the fire.
