Summary
A crewman tightening a drill collar lifting sub with chain tongs suffered serious injury after inadvertent activation of a rotary table speed knob. While reaching for a joystick, the rig manager brushed the knob, reversing the table. The tong handle struck the crewman’s torso and threw him into the drawworks.
