Summary

An offshore production-platform pump engine fire involved leaking natural gas, with faulty ignition or carburettor backfire considered possible ignition sources. Burning motor oil intensified the fire after plastic hoses and a sight glass were destroyed. The alert recommends ignition-system checks, frequent fuel-line leak checks and metal oil supply lines.
