Summary
An offshore production platform flash fire during compressor starting caused facial burns to one man. Gas evidently accumulated through loose starter-line connections and was apparently ignited by a damaged gear drive. The operator replaced the flywheel ring gear, tightened supply-line connections and extended the exhaust above the compressor building.
