Summary
A vessel’s step-down transformer overheated and emitted smoke following a power fluctuation. The chief engineer switched off the main breaker, leaving the vessel adrift, used extinguishers and subsequently bypassed the transformer. The cause remained under investigation. Personnel were advised to assess situations calmly, check protective devices periodically and report defects.
